About Us

Highbury Community House has been providing a wide range of services to the local community since 1979. We offer room hire, classes, workshops, events and a very popular Early Learning Centre.

We could not operate without the support of Auckland Council, Kaipatiki Local Board and our many sponsors around the community including the Birkenhead Licensing Trust. Highbury House is run by core staff members and a Governance Committee.

Who are we and what do we do

Our Vision:

A vibrant community fostering wellbeing

Our Mission:

A welcoming place where our community connects and grows

What we do:

  • We connect our community together.
  • We provide a welcoming space for the community to use.
  • We offer a variety of activities and classes that are responding to the diverse needs enabling our participants to grow.
  • We provide a home away from home for children after school.
  • We provide quality childcare through our Early Learning Centre, led by passionate, innovative teachers.
  • We will extend and refurbish our ELC to better meet increased community need.

Originally run out of the All Saints Vicarage in Hinemoa Street, Highbury House was established under the Birkenhead Community Project in 1979.  Its goal was to provide a venue for community activities and a crèche to enable mothers to join in activities or have time for themselves.

Housed since 1990 in its 110 Hinemoa Street premises, little has changed in terms of its purpose today.  Highbury House is a vibrant hive of activity with the sounds of both young and old members of the community in the house each day – families and their children coming and going from the Early Learning Centre; many art, craft and self-help classes running through the week; the rooms being hired for various business and community activities during the week and celebration gatherings during the weekend.
